Merry Christmas Everyone!

I decided to blog my Christmas Newsletter this year.

It's been 40 years!  That must make us Old! We still don't have things perfected, but we keep trying.  We're slowly but surely learning to appreciate our differences, and rely on the strengths of each other.  

I appreciate Doug for being a man of his word, a gentleman, for crying at movies, and for trying to make me happy.  I love that he still plays basketball twice a week, will record a football game to go to a movie with me, and cares about staying fit and healthy.  I love him for sneaking money to a kid in need (cause I keep telling him not to bail them out), finds time to help a neighbor in need (especially single women), and helps my sister with whatever she needs.  I love him for being there for my dad, cleaning his bathroom and spending time with him.

I especially love that he hasn't given up on me, that he loves me enough to change.

His favorite time this year was going on his 2300 mile motorcycle trip with Brett.  They will never forget that special week they had together.  I hope they can make it an annual event.

He's working at Walgreens just 2 miles from where we live.  

Lisa and Paul Family is making big changes with Nicole getting married.  They have 4 teenage daughters right now.  I love that they know how important it is to spend time together as a family.  That they eat dinners together as much as possible, and that they support each other in good times and bad.  I love that Lisa is the first one there if there is a need.  I love Paul for his patience and peaceful nature.

Nicole and Jon are living in Orem.  Jon goes to school full time and works.  Nicole is taking over my babysitting job on Thursdays with Kim and Leslies kids.

 I love Brent and Leslie for there generous nature.  They are always looking out for others who can use the nice things they are getting rid of.  I love that they are thoughtful, and always have good advice and a listening ear.  I love that they share their daughters with others who love them, even though their time with them is limited and special.

Ryan is in Columbia getting acquainted with his wife of 2 years.  She is suppose to be getting her Visa in January to come to the states.  I love that he is a hard worker, and he loves the underdog and the scriptures.

                                                             

Bretts Family

Brett is still in Las Vegas, but should be going to Texas in the fall as an instructor.

I love Brett and Melonie for their family ties.  Family is the most important thing to them, both their own, and their extended families.  I also love there generous nature in helping others out. In small but very significant ways they meet the needs of those around them, and those they love.  I love their enthusiasm for holidays.

 I love that my girly girl has two active boys! And my sportsy girl (Leslie) has two quiet girly girls (so far their quiet and girly).  I love Kim and Jon for their dedication to their family and each other.  I love them for lifting others with words.  I love them for the example they set of financial solidity, and wise decision making.

Cameron and Kendall

Cam has moved to Pennsylvania.  He became great friends with a girl who goes to Penn State University this summer.  Their friendship has blossomed and they want to move to a new level.  He's found a house to rent just 10 minutes away from where she lives.  

I love Cameron for his ability to find beauty through a camera lens.  I love that he is a hugger, and loves to play with his nieces and nephews.  I love that simple things makes him happy.  I love that he loves to be around his family and that we are all important to him.

Travis, Brittany and Jaxon

They are also living in Orem and are very busy this time of year delivering everyones Christmas Presents.  I guess you can call them Santa's Elves!

I love the friendship they have for each other.  I love Brittany for her help in getting my son to the temple and for her concern for everyone around her.  I love Travis for his compassion and loyalty to others.  I love them both for working at a job that is physically demanding, and doing their best.  I love that they never put others down.

They live in American Fork, not too far away from us.

I love that they have the happiest baby around!  I love that they come over often.  I love that they meet their struggles with courage and determination.  I love that Kaleigh plays with her son, takes him out in the snow, and wants him to experience nature and all it has to offer.  I love that they are becoming strong and independent of parents.

Introducing Riley Jordan Card

On November 5, 2008 Riley Jordan Card officially joined our family. He was very thoughtful and waited until first thing in the morning to start wanting to come out. We went into the hospital around 10:30 and he was born by 1:52 pm.

He was 7lbs 15 oz and 20 3/4 inches, which is quite a bit bigger than Tyler or Stephanie were. Both Cindy and Riley are doing great. It is so fun to have him in our home and both Tyler and Stephanie are loving him as well.

Stephanie did have a meltdown the first time she saw Riley being changed on "her" change table, but she is slowly adjusting to the idea of sharing.

Our 40th Anniversary

A Very memorable 40th anniversary today.  Our oldest granddaughter (Nicole), was proposed to in our back yard.  Nicole and her boyfriend, Jon Kano, wanted their familes to meet, so we planned a barbeque at our house for fifty.  After the blessing on the food, Jon dropped to his knee and presented Nicole a beautiful and sentimental diamond ring.  It was his grandmothers who died 3 weeks ago.  It was the first time we watched an actual proposal in the family.  Both moms were having a hard time holding back the tears.  They will be married in the Mount Timpanogas Temple on November 14th.  Jon is a student at UVU in Orem.  He wants to be a teacher/principal.  He served a mission in Korea.  His dad is Japanese and His mom is blond with blue eyes.  He is very outgoing and we really enjoy his company.  He will make an excellent husband for Nicole (even though we all agree she is WAY TO YOUNG!)

A quick update

Hi everyone,

I'm really glad to be on this blog. I think it is a great way to keep caught up with family. I'll give you a quick update about me and my family. Gabrielle is 8 and in grade 3 and was very excited to be baptized in May, Alison is 6 and in grade 1 and Nicole is 3 and has two more years home with me. It is fun having her to myself during the day and we both enjoy each other's company. Ron works in software and I stay at home. In my spare time I play on a soccer team and run a kids soccer group. I like to read, scrapbook, paint, and renovate/decorate our home. I serve as the first councilor in the primary which also keeps me busy. A highlight this year was celebrating my ten year anniversary in Hawaii. Is was so much fun.

One Month To Live

I just finished a book called "One Month To Live - thirty days to a no-regrets life.  It was written by a pastor of a big church.  It was really an amazing book.  Made me think what I would do different if I knew my time was about up.  

I don't think I would change too much.  I would hire a cook and person to clean my house.  I would stop shopping and watching television.  I would wish I wrote more.  But, I would still tend my grandkids on Tues and Thurs.  I would still make Wed my service day.  I would still sing for retirement and rest homes.  I would still scrapbook ( but more meaningful things).  I would still want to hang out with my friends, and I wouldn't worry about that dang ten pounds I never lost!

Leslie delivers!

Emri Blaize Peterson was born on Friday August 22, 2008 (Bryces 66 birthday).  She weighed 6.7 pounds and was 17 inches long.  Leslie was in the hospital (she was induced) only 4 1/2 hours.  Mom and baby are doing great.  Ayvri loves being a big sister.  She memorized a book called "Welcome Home Baby." and reads it to her all the time.  She loves holding her and singing to her.

Leslie invited me in for the delivery.  It was the most amazing thing I have ever been to.  I had a much better view of this miracle than I did the times I delivered.  All I can say is WOW, and thank my Heavenly Father for another sweet spirit joining our family.

Girls Day Out!

We figured if I exchange a daughter for a granddaughter every few years, I'll look younger!  Or maybe I'll feel younger.   Someone asked me how old my kids were the other day.  I about choked when I thought about it.  It's ok if I get old, but when my "kid" will be 40 next year  - that's a shock even to my system!

Take a look at my 8 1/2 month pregnant daughter.  She looks pretty dang good!

Dougs Dream Road Trip

Brett and Doug took a 2110 mile road trip covering six states last week, and lived to tell about it!  The first picture shows them on day one - un-sunburned.  They stayed in Boullion Canyon the first night.  They both thought the ground felt like sleeping on a rock, so the next 5 days they slept in motels, cabins and once at Lisas house.  Don't ya think Doug looks cute sporting the 50's look with his rolled up pants?

The indian ruins were the most amazing part of the trip.  Click on the picture and notice the people inside the ruins.  You will get a better idea how big the ruins were.

The best part was staying in Silverton, Colorado for the 4th of July.  It is a small miners town nestled in the mountains.  The firework show was in surround sound, echoing off the mountains.  It was a quaint town, where people flock for the festivities.

I don't know if there was a worse moment.  They seemed to love every minute of it.

Brad finally jumps on the blog bandwagon

Well, I finally took some time to figure out how to post some pictures of our family.

It's true that we found out that we are having a BOY in November. We are very excited that this one is only 2 years (almost to the day) after Stephanie instead of the 6.5 years we had to wait after Tyler.

Below are some photos of our family to catch you up a little...

On April 30th Tyler finally turned 8 (he had been counting down the days for months). Then on May 10th he was baptized and confirmed. He also became a cub and has already earned a few badges. He just completed Grade 2 and is a great big brother to Stephanie.

Stephanie continues to be such a joy to us. She is quite the parrot and copies just about everything we say... which isn't always a good thing.

Here she is on July 1st at the spray park near our house.

Cindy and I celebrated our 10th Anniversary on May 30th. I took her down to California for the week to the Monterey Bay area. We had been there previously just before our 1st Anniversary so it was fun to go back 9 years later.

Happy July 1st

Hope ya all are enjoying your holiday!

Doug is on his 2000 mile road trip with Brett.  They left yesterday and made it to Marysvale.  They camped in a campground in the canyon.  Doug said the ground was pretty hard.  He had to choose between taking a sleeping bag or a pad.  they both wouldn't fit on the motorcycle.  Brett got hit in the leg with a rock from a truck, but other than that they are having a very wonderful time.  My mom wonders if Doug knows how old he is!

IT'S A BOY!

 I am surprized that Brad hasn't told the world.  They are having a BOY. They are so excited.  He probably didn't know how to get into that site.  So tell the family.

Chad and Karyn and family have just moved in with us tonight for the summer or until they buy a home.  They have someone who wants to buy their house. It is such a blessing.  She is the first and only person to see their house. It is not even listed yet with a realator so they are going to be able to clear a little more this way.  Once that is all said and done they will be able to buy.  He is going to have an interview for a job in a couple of weeks.  The man hiring is going away on holidays but wants to interview Chad when he gets back.  If he gets this job he will be in charge of the physed program for the high school, teach Social (which is his minor), coach volleyball which he has done for the past 5 years.  It is his dream job.  It is even at his old High School.  So pray for him that he will be able to have this job.  The Lord has been so good to them.

Becky and Dan both have jobs but no baby and haven't had any offers on their place in Calgary yet.  They are a little discouraged but Bryce just finished it completely 2 weeks ago.  It is Stampede Week in Calgary and everything shuts down for a week or maybe that is just the realtor that shut down. They need your prayers too.   We all do.  We'll pray for you and you pray for us.

I just wanted to thank everyone for your hospitality this last month when we came up for Lindas wedding and Dannys funeral.  We love you guys, love catching up with your lives and kids.  It was especially nice to see Brad, we haven't seen him in a long time.  I suppose he knows what sex his third child is now.  He promised to post it in this blog this weekend.

Dannys funeral couldn't have been nicer.  Everything was perfect.  Thanks to Doreen for going out of your way to haul your keyboard to the church.  It made all the difference in the world.  I'm sure Danny was very pleased at what was said.  I really felt Myrtles presence when Bryce was reading poems.  I just bet we had a lot more family members there than could be seen.  This is how I'll remember Danny, always smiling.

We're officially OLD!

Is that what really defines your age and state of mind? Having our first grandchild graduate from hight school is definitely one of those mile markers.  It will be a sure thing when she has a baby and we add "great" in front of our title.  I have been considering being "great" for a while now.  I thought I could be a great singer,  or a great writer.  Then I realized the greatest person to ever walk the earth was Jesus Christ.  If I can follow in His footsteps by serving and encouraging and edifying, that would be about the greatest I can get.  So before I become a "great" grandma, I might just as well get on the right path, so the name fits.

We went to St. Mary's Dam looking for arrowheads. No arrowheads but, we did find a fossil!
